This is the story of Uther Pendragon who is important in the Arthur legend as Arthurs father but then you dont' get much in the story about him in any telling of the legend. Jack does more than most, but this is brilliant. Well worth the time to read it. Uther Pendragon (415-482), also known as Emrys, was Duke of Hwicce from 446 to 482, succeeding Ambrosius Aurelianus and preceding Arthfael ap Emrys. He was the father of King Arthur, the ruler of Dyfneint. Uther Pendragon was a King of Great Britain and the father of King Arthur Pendragon. He was known to be a strong king and defender of his people. The witch Merlin disguised Uther as his enemy Gorlois, enabling Uther to rape Gorlois' wife Lady Igraine. Thus Arthur was an illegitimate child, though Gorlois was killed the same night and Uther later married Igraine. Uther also appears in several early Triads of the Island of Britain and the personal name is known from other pre-Galfridian sources. As an epithet, Pendragon can be interpreted as something like 'Foremost.
Merlin-Ambrosius figured as adviser to Uther Pendragon (King Arthur’s father) and afterward to Arthur himself. In a later work, Vita Merlini, Geoffrey further developed the story of Merlin by adapting a northern legend about a wild man of the woods, gifted with powers of divination. Early in the 13th century.

Uther Pendragon is the father of King Arthur in the Arthurian legend. His name, Pendragon, means the 'Chief-Dragon', which means he is the 'foremost leader' or 'chief of warriors'.[1] He is mentioned briefly in Old Welshpoems, but his biography was first written down by Geoffrey of Monmouth in his Historia Regum Britanniae (History of the Kings of Britain). Geoffrey's description of him has been used in most later stories.
According to the stories, Arthur is the son of Uther Prendragon and the Lady Igraine.
